“Final Frontier” – Iron Maiden’s Final Album?
With a title like Final Frontier, it is perhaps inevitable that speculation would begin immediately as to it being Iron Maiden’s final studio album, as hinted by Steve Harris previously. It already has some groups of fans talking about this, what it means for the tour, and also what it means for the band itself.
If it is their last studio release, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Iron Maiden as a touring entity would cease to be; they still draw in a large crowd, and could hypothetically keep touring every other year, doing the best-of shows they’ve been doing on alternate tours recently. However, would this continue to be a challenge for the band, or would they find it mundane?
In my opinion, some members of the band still appreciate the musical challenge of creating new tunes, and the process of actually writing; while some are perhaps happy to simply go through the motions, as they just love being in Iron Maiden and are happy to play, regardless of what they play.
So, it will indeed be very interesting to see what happens in a year’s time when the tour has ended (or close to ending), and whether they will make a formal announcement or not. No doubt, the band will have the question of the future raised numerous times in press interviews leading up the release of Final Frontier.
What do you think?
I would be gutted if they quit. Everyone who stands in fron tof them can see they still got so much more to give. Keep the Maiden train going!
Having said all of that, that is just the opinions of a selfish dedicated fan talking… if they feel it is time them we must all respect them for it… but Eddie will live on…
I’m pretty sure they would’ve announced it with the album announcement. I hope I’m right, because their last 3 albums have been stellar and I know they have at least a few more albums in them. If it is in fact their last then at least we had the great fortune to have as many fantastic ones as we have.
Guys, it’s genuinely intriguing to consider that it is Steve Harris that has said he only ever wanted to do 15 studio albums, YET the other band members are happy to carry on, as spoken by Adrian Smith.
Maiden have been a good companion since i first listened to them in 1989. I don’t want them to call it a day until they may realise (in 2020!) that they have turned into ACDC and are just churning out the same damn album every time.
Steve. Don’t put a number on the studio albums. Quit when you know you have given your best. A time, i think, quite some way away…
LB.
Iron maiden will never die! so long as there are people out there who love them. the only thing to say is those who waited till now to see, and hear f-up and lost the chance of a life time to be a part of history.
I’ve seen quotes of Steve Harris saying he always wanted to do 15 albums and he was impressed the band had reached the point. I got the impression it was a milestone, a goal he had reached. I don’t think I’ve ever seen/heard him explicitly say he wanted to stop after 15 or that 15 was enough, just that he was impressed to reach this point. Can anyone point out anything where he implies this? Either way, with it taking 3-4 years per album, I’m sure in that time he may or may change his mind. I mean, Purple, Sabbath, Heep, and others are 10 years older than Iron Maiden (yeah, Sabbath is called “Heaven & Hell” now, but it’s Sabbath in my mind) and they’re still going. For now, I’m just happy to have a new one on its way, and that I can see the tour without going to another state!
Been a fan since 1981 and now my daughter is a fan. My god what if her kid starts listening to Powerslave, we could have a dynasty of Maiden fans !! It’s alright with me. Life is like a wheel and you’re under it. Get outta the way !!!
we want maiden for ever!
what is the meaning of final frontier of iron maiden. Any cultural, history or about war.
Hey, Been a fan for 4 or 5 years and love the new and old MAIDEN, i will be upset to see them go but if they’re happy then thats all that matters. IRON MAIDEN WILL LIVE FOR EVER !!!!
As maiden is gettin older, they r gettin better… their last 3 albums have been really prolific. i bet they have lot more juice left in them. plus please note that Steve Harris said that “he WANTED to do 15 albums” and not “he WANTS to do 15 albums”. so fans!! just buckle up for final frontier!!.. Maiden is ETERNAL
NO !!!!!! I wish they ain’t gonna stop ’til they are 75! That’s what I would do if I was in that band, but I am not. However, I would respect their decision to retire if they decide to, and will do whatever I can to see as much shows of them as possible in the few next years.
i like final frontier more than el dorado, the video is in the official page
